Melancholy Menagerie: A Gaze into the World of Big Eyes delves into the idea of why the Big Eyes character was so popular in the 60's and why it experienced resurgence in contemporary art. During the 1960's, decorative, consumer oriented art flourished with many of these artists working under pseudonyms. They created artworks with adorable characters, often characterized by their bright-eyes, and innocent yet lonely, melancholy, and maybe even menacing faces. Artwork from popular artists of the 60's like Keane, Eden, and Lee became iconic even four decades later. In addition to vintage art, this exhibit includes contemporary pieces by Camille Rose Garcia, Yosuke Ueno, Mark Ryden, Sas Christian, Tim Burton and more.
